If you have been browsing youtube lately or you happen to have an account on the site (like myself), you probably have noticed a slight change that's occurring....and that change happens to be many of the videos with unlicensed music in them are getting muted or deleted completely due to the ''lack of permission'' from the copyrights holders.
Now, i wanted to bring this up in a new blog template (The Q & A's) but this is really starting to get on my nerves and after i read this i felt like it was about time for the users of youtube to ''fight back'' or to at least logically explain to youbtube and the copyright infringement people that what they are doing is not only wrong but its hurting many people who depend on the site for many different reasons (Music artists and their fans).....
Now personally, i really think the whole reaction they have made is a bit retarded on the fact that many people go to youtube to listen to their favorite songs from their favorite artists regardless if the music in the video is owned by the video marker him or herself. what your basically doing (youtube copyrighters) is taking away the potential sales from the artists from the random viewers who commonly ask ''whats the song in the video''.....i mean, if i could had a dollar for every time some one has asked me for the song i used in one of my videos....well, lets just say i would have a ps3 by now.....
Over the past couple of weeks i have been getting emails from youtube telling me that one my videos goes against some kind of copyright infringement policy and i have 3 options; to remove the video completely (Hell No...), Try and Resolve the conflict by making some sort of statement (No Fucking point seeing how you clearly used the song with out the copyrights holders permission and you have no room to really explain yourself in a complete manner that says ''yes i used the music and heres why'' without still being on the losing side) or your final option, keep the video on the site, but remove the audio (Thats Fucking Gay, especially when it comes to having an AMV uploaded on the site....there's pretty much no reason to watch an Anime Music Video without the God Damn Music!)
What makes the 2nd option much worse (Resolving the Claim) than it really is is that its so fucking frustrating to sit there, stare at the screen, and trying to find a way to reason to them why it shouldn't be taking down due to many of the positive outcomes the video can produce for the people who actually made the music (its almost like the copyright infringements are cock blocking the users from getting it on with the artists music.......bad example?). i tried to explain the situation from my point of view only to see that you couldnt use a bunch of ''mundane'' excuses to prove a strong point. Heres what i managed to come up with.....
This video is nothing more than a montage of a few videos edited together with bloc party's helicopter playing in the background. I currently do not understand what is so wrong about making and uploading a video of this onto youtube. If you purchase a song from an artist and you enjoy that song from that artist enough to feature them in your own video, why is that a bad thing? Overall it’s helping them get out there by word of mouth and could possibly increase their sales. if you guys could, please get back to me by explaining why it is so necessary to block content promoting others work. Unless I were to have a link in the video itself to where it allowed you to download the song for free, I really don’t see any reason to block content that is supporting the artist. If the video does end up getting terminated from youtube for good, that’s completely fine with me but I would really like to know why all the sudden it is wrong to upload content that is promoting artistsSadly, youtube & the copyright holders have not gotten this message.....
Another way that i find it to be frustrating is that they dont give you any room to actually explain yourself and your actions. i would love to get in a discussion with the people who ran across my video/s and ask them why there being removed but youtube provides no contact information from the notice that is emailed to you nor on the page where you settle your claim. its basically almost as if the copyright holders themselves are anonymous users who run through youtube flagging videos they feel are going against their authority......and when it comes times to you, the user, to state your claim (or to try and reason with them), you pretty much already know that its a lose - lose situation......but if you decide to take this daring step, Good Luck, you'll need it because if you lose, you either get banned or lose your account.....
To actually add a bit of humor in this short blog, the other day when i was finding a way to ''fight back'' against youtube by making it harder for them to find my videos with copyrighted content in them i found that one of my own videos that i made some 2 years ago over some of the great games on the playstation 3 (Double showcase) had been flagged by the.....well, here, take a look for yourselves......
Seriously? are you fucking serious? i mean, at first i was like WTF but after a while i found it hilarious that some idiot managed to come across my video and flag it because they thought it was theirs....and to top it all of, its from ''the fashion network''......What in the Flying Fuck?!? i mean seriously, did you even take the time to look at the video itself, or were you just going around and flagging videos like some kind of blind jackass? i mean, the amount of stupidity that was shown here amazed me......almost as if it was a joke.....
As a way to end this Rant, i can only say this......If youtube continues its ways, they are going to end up driving away many of their users away to other sites, especially anyone who makes their own videos and adds music that isn't made by themselves (which according to my calculations, thats a Fuckload of people!) i mean, to have come this far and to fall now over something so......childish, would be an absolute catastrophe for the site. (its almost as if were going back to the days where you could only listen to music you purchased off of itunes only on an apple product.....give us a fucking break and lighten up already) After this whole entire situation, im looking more into vimeo and their HD enabled videos (which by the way, was around way before youtube even considered streaming HD content on their site...) it seems like youtube took one step forward by enabling HD videos but is taking one giant step back by removing videos that show fan appreciation and help artists get their names out their...... Lets hope youtube can get their heads back in the game and start thinking logically before its too late.....
